Beach trails successfully completed
The DP vessels Coastal Crown and Coastal Challenger have successfully completed beach trials at Wijk aan Zee on behalf of TenneT for a cable burial campaign scheduled for spring 2022.
Coastal Crown will be equipped to supply adequate water pressure to a submarine cable excavator with caterpillar tracks. Next spring, the tracked vehicle "Moonfish" will drive from the beach to a water depth of 15 meters to bury the first part of the export cables for the offshore wind farms Hollandse Kust (North) (West Alpha). A total of four power output cables must be buried up to 8 meters below the beach/sea floor.
For the recent campaign, Coastal Challenger was brought in to assist with the handling of the floating line. The floating line was connected to the "Starfish" trencher on the beach of Wijk aan Zee, for a complete feasibility check of the technical working method.
By arranging appropriate assistance with the laying of the cables, Acta Marine has demonstrated its ability, flexibility and reliability to assist in complex operations in shallow water. At the same time, the trials have proven Coastal Crown's excellence, with its hybrid propulsion, significantly reduced emissions and DP2 docking capabilities in strong tides.
With the Hollandse Kust (North) (West Alpha) project, TenneT ensures the connection of the wind farms that are constructed in the North Sea on the national electricity grid (Net op Zee). To make this possible, TenneT is building a platform in the sea, laying cables in the sea and on land and building a transformer station in the IJmond region.
