Acta Marine as container carrier in West Africa
For many years Acta Marine has been active in the coastal waters of West Africa. At this moment 5 workboats are being operated in this area, in cooperation with our regional partner Almatug. Usually these workboats are being deployed for supporting tasks at projects for the development of ports and maritime infrastructure or oil & gas projects.
Other use of our workboats can be attractive as well, which was proved again recently when we made our debut as container carrier. Under a contract from a logistics service company our tug “Coastal Tiger” and barge “La Chinoise” made a number of voyages with containers from Pointe Noire, Congo to Cabinda, Angola. Although the transport distance was less than 150 km., transportation by land was not an efficient option and the transportation need did not fit in the sailing schedules of the regular container carriers. A barge and tug of Acta Marine offered the solution.
Despite the successful execution of the project, this did not raise our ambition to become a true container shipping company. We rather stick to what we are really good at; supplying maritime support services with small workboats.
