Coastal Worker lowers power cable for Belgian beaches

12 November 2008

Acta Marine’s multi purpose vessel Coastal Worker has successfully lowered 400mtr of power cable. The client chartered the Coastal Worker for remedial lowering of the power cable connecting the Thornton Windfarm to the Belgian shore facility near Ostend.

The dedicated dredging spread installed onboard Coastal Worker was capable of lowering the power cable to a required burial depth of 2 meters.

By means of post lay burial the spread was able to lower the cable from the beach low water point, extending 400 meters into the North Sea. Assisted by a period of near perfect weather conditions the job was completed within very reasonable time.

According to the client’s project management Acta Marine’s method of post lay burial was effective and very efficient, especially considering the shallow water environment at the Belgian beaches.
